"I want to be with you, but not here."

Nov 08, 2005 17:38

This is the funniest thing EVER! I woke up this morning with a "torticolie", which is neck pain and I can't for the life of me move my head. So I've been sitting/standing in the same position ALL day. It's not pleasant at all, but it is indeed hilarious! I look like a freakin' girafe. And I missed school for that. Yup!

So tonight's the night folks!! I hope your VCRs are ready. If they're not, then consider this a reminder. ;)

So I went ahead and made myself and anyone interested a little R/J repertory, season two until present. It's not super detailed or anything, but it's just a memory refresher. I'll be adding to it once tonight's episode is overanalyzed to its core. LOL! So here it is...

Remember them?
Just a little reminder to all the Rory/Jess fans out there...

Jess: That’ll be twelve-fifty.
Rory: Which means you lied about why you came over.
Jess: I don’t have any quarters. I’m gonna have to give you nickels.
Rory: Now why would you lie about something like that?
Jess: Here’s your change. Come again soon.
Rory: You wanted to come over.
Jess: I have to get back to work.
Rory: You’re squirming. I’ve never seen you squirm. It’s entertaining.

My Comments
Season 2 has got to be the best in character build-up. For one, we were introduced to Jess as him being some wandering loner rebel who wanted to be anywhere but in Stars Hallow. Upon meeting Rory, his life would start to change, both in attitude and aim. It is pretty obvious that he was attracted to Rory since the very beginning probably because unlike everyone else, she understood him and somehow related to him. Rory, for her part, also went through a slight transformation. Lorelai once quoted that Rory was now seventeen and that she needed a Jess. Rory became a little more edgy and would defend what she thought to be right. In this case, it would be Jess.

The lovely thing about this budding relationship is the build-up of true and heartfelt friendship before diving in to love. By the end of the season, we notice that feelings are in fact mutual and that there may eventually be a future for these two.

Rory: And I don’t know, I thought he came back here because he liked me or something, and I kissed him and he kissed me back, and now he’s over there and I feel so stupid and...that girl isn’t even his type and -
[3.01]

Rory: That’s not going to work.
Jess: Andy Warhol did it all the time. [Rory gives him the book] We’re just five bucks away from a deal.
Rory: [kisses him] That’s worth five at least.
Jess: You Gilmores think a lot of yourselves. Okay.
[3.14]

Rory: I have to go.
Jess: Don’t go.
Rory: I don’t want to.
Jess: Then don’t. Let’s go somewhere.
Rory: I’ve got takeout.
Jess: I’ll reimburse you.
Rory: My mom’s waiting. Keep thinking what you’re thinking.
Jess: I don’t have a choice.
[3.14]

Rory: What’d you get?
Jess: Almost Famous.
Rory: No, not again.
Jess: I can’t help it, I’m addicted.
Rory: Fine, but if I’m going to spend two hours sitting there watching Kate Hudson commit suicide again, then we are ordering Indian food.
Jess: Oh, come on.
Rory: Hey, last night when we watched Ed Wood we got burgers like you wanted to.
Jess: Okay, fine - tonight, Indian food, but tomorrow, Saturday Night Fever and Thai food.
Lane: That’s so cute. You’re like a really sweet old agoraphobic couple.
[3.18]

Rory: I don't wanna leave. Now, come on, try to have fun. Talk, mingle.
Jess: I don't wanna talk to anybody else. I don't like anybody else.
[3.19]

My Comments
Season 3 is much more angsty than the previous one. As a matter of fact, we see both Rory and Jess through a completely different light. The first quarter of the season shows very a very distant relationship between the two. They were mad at each other for being with someone else (Rory with Dean, Jess with Shane) and tried to deny their feelings for one another. Obviously, everything eventually crashed and they realized that it's each other they wanted. And they began dating.

As a couple, they were comfortable. They no longer needed to prove anything, just that they really cared. They were constantly doing little things for each other. Unfortunately, it wasn't perfect just yet. It seemed that as a couple, they had a harder time accepting things. Jess would sometimes be jealous of Dean and misinterpret certain situations which in part lead to his departure. He hated himself for disappointing Rory, but it was his duty to leave.

I must admit, I'm all about against, but I'd have to side with all those who think that Jess' character was destroyed in the last episodes of the season. Then again, that didn't ruin my love for my ship. It actually proved that, down to it, there is no such thing as perfect love.

+ Season Four

Key Episodes
4.13 - Nag Hammadi Is Where They Found the Gnostic Gospel
4.21 - Last Week Fights, This Week Tights

Quotes
Jess: Rory, stop!
Rory: Why?
Jess: Because I wanna talk to you.
Rory: About what? What do you want to talk to me about?
Jess: When did you learn to run like that?
Rory: You know, I have actually thought about this moment. A lot. What would Jess say to me I ever saw him again? I mean, he just took off, no note, no call, nothing, how could he explain that? And then a year goes by. No word, nothing, so he couldn't possibly have a good excuse for that, right? I have imagined hundreds of different scenarios with a hundred different great last parting lines, and I have to tell you that I am actually very curious to see which way this is going to go.
Jess: Could we sit down?
Rory: No. You wanted to talk, so talk. What do you have to say to me?
(Jess pauses a second.)
Jess: I love you.
[4.13]

Rory: What do you want?
Jess: I don't know. I just wanted to see you, talk to you. I just...
Rory: What?
Jess: Come with me.
[4.21]

Jess: You're packed. Your stuff is all in boxes. It's perfect. You're ready. And I'm ready. I'm ready for this. You can count on me now. I know you couldn't count on me before, but you can now. You can.
Rory: No!
Jess: Look, you know we're supposed to be together. I knew it the first time I saw you two years ago, and you know it, too. I know you do.
[4.21]

My Comments
I think I was overly ecstatic when I found out Jess would be coming back. And I thought that the second time, he'd go home a winner. But I was wrong. I hated him for confessing his love for Rory like that and running away, once again. I don't think matters were handled efficiently. The episode before the season finale, while it was haunting, was also invaded with emotional dilemma. It was the hardest Rory/Jess scene I've ever had to watch as it brought so many tears to my eyes. It was a definite goodbye. It was a symbol of the end of what once was.

Rory was too quick to say no. She slept with Dean the same night. That was a real stab in the heart for all Literatis out there. But Jess was also too dismissive. I doubt he grasped the theory that in life, there should be compromise. They should've talked it out. And what these two lack most of all is sense of communication.

+ Season Six

Key Episodes
6.08 - Let Me Hear Your Balalaikas Ringing Out
6.18 - The Real Paul Anka

Quotes
Jess: Are you nervous?
Rory: A little. [She sighs, smiling] It's been a long time.
Jess: I'm a little nervous, too.
Rory: Good, I'm not alone.
[6.08]

Rory: You wrote a book?
Jess: A short novel.
Rory: You wrote a book?
Jess: And through a fluke I got it to these guys that have a small press, and they read it, I don't know if they were high or something, but they decided to publish it!
Rory: You wrote a book.
Jess: There's no money in it. They only printed, like, five hundred of them. Believe me, I'm not quitting my day job.
Rory: But - you wrote it. You wrote a book. [She stands and flips through it.]
Jess: Yeah, I know, it's hard to believe.
Rory: You sat down and wrote a novel.
[6.08]

Rory: You know why I like your book?
Jess: Why?
Rory: It dosn't remind me of anything. It's not a rip-off. It's just you.
Jess: High praise from Miss Yale editor.
Rory: Well, I don't get to write as much as I'd like. Mostly, I'm assigning, motivating, hand-holding...
Jess: But you love it. Come on, tell me you don't.
Rory: I do. I do love it. It's exciting.
Jess: You look happier than when I saw you last.
Rory: I am.
Jess: So... you fixed everything?
Rory: Yeah, everything's fixed.
Jess: I'm glad you're here.
Rory: Yeah, me too.
*kiss*
[6.18]

My Comments
I love Jess. I really do. And in both these episodes, he's proved he's established himself. He knows where he's at. He made it. And I can't help but remember him telling Rory that he couldn't have done it without her. It's moments like these that make my heart stop. So yes, that first episode was mind-blowing, because he returned the favor by making her acknowledge the place she's in. She doesn't belong out of school, at her grand-parents mansion and at the DAR. She belongs in school because that it is who she is. What's wonderful about this ship is that they gave each other so much without really taking notice of it.

Sadly, the latter episode was heartbreaking when Rory bluntly admitted to Jess she loved Logan. I will not question her feelings for him, but I am furious that she ignores Jess' feelings in all this. After all, it's obvious he still loves her. And after three years, we got a kiss and it was just as perfect as when they were together. But she broke him, and she broke me too.

I hope you enjoyed that. Perhaps it brought a smile to your face?!

I've been listening to Lady by Mojo on repeat today because it takes me back to last January when I was high on R/J fanfics, fanvids, fanart, etc. So this song is very representative of the ship for me. It has an eerie tone to it, almost melancholic and happy at the same time. I LOVE IT!

So good night and may you all enjoy the show! :D
