The Law Lords have said that Debbie Purdy does have the right, under Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights, to choose how she dies. And they have said that the law on assisted suicide needs to be clarified in order to be clearer to whether or not those who assist should be prosecuted - although no-one ever has been, that doesn't rule it out.
I do think this is a step in the right direction. I know voluntary euthanasia is a thorny topic, because you would have to have very stringent safeguards in place to make sure that it was, well, voluntary and not, you know, Grandma feeling like she's a burden to the kids or something. But I do honestly believe that no-one should be forced to live longer than they wish, and if we have control of anything in our life it ought to be the manner of our leaving it.
