I am idly considering exploring the option of a job exchange.
I know why - I've just passed four years in my current position, and four years is about the longest I've ever spent in one place before - so clearly I'm getting restless. But I don't want to change jobs or move, I like my current job and I'd struggle to find a salary to match it without moving into a managerial role, which I do not want. But I feel like I really need a change of scenery.
Hence, job exchange. There are programmes within CILIP (the UK's professional librarian association) but I'm not a member (mainly because CILIP is ineffective and their membership fees are extortionate) and I'm not going to join up just to access their job-exchange programme. So if I did start exploring it I would have to arrange it privately, contacting suitable libraries, individuals, sounding people out, exploring options. The first step would be to convince my own library to support it, of course! And I'm really not sure what would be required in the way of accommodation swaps, insurance, work permits, funding... Or what I'd do with my cats!
Has anyone ever done anything similar? Or, you know, know any librarians that might fancy a few months in England as a law librarian? :)
