I came across a quote from Virgil today whilst cataloguing a law book (
The International Law of Migrant Smuggling, no less) that seemed so incredibly pertinent to the Syrian refugee crisis at the moment.
"What men, what monsters, what inhuman race,
What laws, what barbarous customs of the place,
Shut up a desert shore to drowning men,
And drive us to the cruel seas again?"
- Virgil, Aeneid I, 539-540
Two thousand plus years, and still so relevant.
