First glimpse of the BBC's adaptation of Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell...

I think I'm more excited about this than anything in a long time. It's only my favourite book in the world, after all!

For so long there was talk of being made into a film, and I just couldn't see how a book this thick and dense and with so much whimsy and character could possibly be condensed into a roughly two-hour film. It just wouldn't work. But a seven-part BBC miniseries, now that's something else entirely! I think I trust the BBC to pull something like this off more than any other network or company, to really do it justice without sacrificing character or tone in the interests of appealing to the widest audience or the lowest common denominator.

I'll admit, neither of them look quite like I'd pictured Strange or Norrell, but I try not to get too worked up about things like this - that's the point of books and the imagination, after all! Jonathan Strange will be different in everyone's head, no two Norrells will be the same.

Ugh, February 2015. Not so long to wait, but still. I want it now!
