I actually remember checking this out when it first aired a couple of years ago - mainly because Poppy Montgomery was in it, and I loved her as Sam in Without a Trace. But I seem to recall not being all that bothered by it, and then I heard it was cancelled so I never really followed through with it. But then it wasn't cancelled and it's now in its third season, and I just started watching it this past week - and I kinda love it!
I've pretty much mainlined the entire first season and half of the second in the last week. I must say, I preferred the first season, when they were based in Queens rather than this new Major Crimes bullshit, all flash and tech. I liked the old-fashioned kind of police work they did in Queens, and I liked the team they had there better too.
But I am so in love with Carrie and Al. I just love their relationship - the whole 'old flames who quite openly still adore one another and secretly are still madly in love with one another'. I love their banter and their flirting and all those innuendo-filled 'remember when' conversations, it's so cute. And Carrie just has Al wrapped round her little finger and he's so long-suffering, just rolls his eyes and goes with it. I think I have such a thing for relationships where the two have their own history and language and shared jokes and banter, and everyone else around them is just like 'are they always like this?'
So, anyone? I have no idea how popular this show is or what the viewing figures are like. Knowing my luck it'll get canned at the end of the current season and I'll never know if Carrie and Al get back together, or if Carrie will ever find out who murdered her sister!
