Another one near the top of my TBR pile. I don't know why I haven't read it yet as I live near where the East India Company Military College used to be and all our roads are named after famous India Company generals!

William Dalrymple is one of my favourite writers. If you haven't read "From the Holy Mountain" I highly recommend it, though it's heartbreaking in the light of what's happening in the Middle East now.

Is that Haileybury? I think I'm going to look out for some kind of history of the East India Company - it's fascinating.

I do have 'From The Holy Mountain' in my TBR pile, I think I might read it next. But I'd definitely recommend this one - as I said, I could hardly put it down, and it just opened up a whole new world for me.

No, it's Addiscombe, a satellite area of Croydon, once a separate village. Its history is well concealed but crops up in odd places like the early 19th century villas that once belonged to the East India company and the road names.

"From the Holy Mountain" is a bit of a departure for William Dalyrmple as he usually writes about India. It's a fascinating book about surviving Christian communities in the Middle East, but it's been a bit overtaken now by events.

Wow. This book sounds amazing. That kind of passion and love just fascinates me. I can't imagine being so certain in another person that I'd risk so much to be with them. It's really inspiring.
