14. If you won the lottery...
Now we need to be a little specific here. 'Winning the lottery' could mean winning £10 on a scratchcard, or it could be a couple of hundred thousand, or it could mean several million.
If I won a tenner on a scratchcard, I'd probably just put it in my wallet and spend it on whatever I normally spend such things on - a drink from the shop, lunch at work, a magazine.
If I won a couple of hundred thousand, I'd pay off my mortgage, buy a new car, treat myself to my dream roadtrip through the American Southwest, maybe replace the carpets in my house.
If I won millions? Again, how many millions? A million doesn't go as far as it once did. Let's say ten million. I'd probably split it with my brother. I'd buy a bigger house, but nothing excessive, there's only me and the cats, after all. I might buy a holiday home somewhere in America. My parents are already talking about downsizing, so I don't think they'd appreciate a new house, and they're mortgage-free too. I'd get a cleaner, to save me having to do it. I might get a horse and stable it at a livery. I'd visit all the countries on my bucket list.
Would I quit my job? Maybe, maybe not. I'd probably be bored without a job, and I quite like this one. Maybe I'd go part-time. I'd try and be sensible with the money - it's so easy to blow through it when you have no real concept of how much it actually is.
