Sneaky Democrats!
I'm watching episode 6x17 'A Good Day', and damn, I love this episode. It's not a spectacular episode, far from one of The West Wing's best, but I love the Democratic Congressional Slumber Party subplot.
It just cracks me up, the image of Democrat Congressmen-and-women sneaking around the halls of the Capitol, avoiding Republicans and hiding out in the Vice President's office overnight to trick the Republican Speaker into thinking all the Democrats have gone back to their districts and calling a vote on an stem cell research bill the Republicans want to defeat.
What cracks me up even more is the fact that this episode inspired similar shenanigans in our own Parliament here in England a few years back, under Blair's government. And the final icing on the cherry is that in real life the government lost by one vote. The Prime Minister's. Who'd gone back to his office because his Chief Whip told him the vote was wrapped up.
