I understand Leicester wanting him there, as he's been there for 500 years, and they found him. I also completely understand why you think he should go to York. (I may be reading other things, but I'm still plodding along in Perkin). What I'm wondering is, why isn't he going to Westminster? Admittedly, it's a bit crowded, but he was a King.

I don't think they bury people in Westminster anymore - not sure there's room! And not every monarch is buried there anyway. I don't think anyone since George II has been. Besides, I think then it would have to be a state funeral, and this wouldn't be a funeral, just a re-interment. And I think it would also be the government/Queen's call then.

That said, Richard's wife is buried in Westminster, so either there or York would be more appropriate than Leicester. I mean, his only real claim to Leicester is that he lost the battle, his throne and his life there! I doubt he'd want to stick around for eternity!

It's quite a story, isn't it? We sat and watched the news with huge smiles...

York would be nice, yes, but at least he'll be laid to rest somewhere fairly fitting.

If this was Leverage, we would steal that coffin and bury him secretly in York Cathedral because that would be the right thing to do.

Damn straight. I mean, as long as he has a high-profile and respectful service as befitting his position as a King of England, regardless of what history does or does not think of him, that's more than he's had for 500 years... But I still think his own wishes ought to taken into consideration. It's his burial, after all, it should be about him, not the tourism status of Leicester or the academic reputation of the University.

He's our Yorkist King. He should be buried in our Yorkist Cathedral. The city of York was ALWAYS loyal to our king.

Like you said, he's only in Leicester because he lost a battle there. Let him come home to rest.
