BBC News: Lewis Hamilton to leave McLaren for MercedesI'm pretty gutted to hear this, I have to confess. It's not so much Lewis leaving McLaren, although that does make me sad. Once upon a time I would have hated to see him leave, full stop, but I can understand why he is leaving. They've jerked him around, let him down, treated him like a petulant ( Read more... )

Fernando, as an example, has proven time and time again that an amazing driver in a shit car can win races, so I can see Lewis managing to put a semi-decent Mercedes on the top step too. Merc will have an advantage in 2014 when they are making the engines for the turbo cars, and Lewis will partly be thinking ahead.

I don't know. Lewis has been treated like he hasn't been professional and there have been times when he just hasn't been professional. Inf act at times, he's been quite the shite. That crap he came out with in Monaco last year was childlike and he's lucky McLaren stood by him and supported him in the way that they did to be honest. He has had repeated lapses in form where he has talked about his personal life ie 'my relationship with Nicole is on the rocks so my form has gone down the toilet'. He can't do that, and hopefully Merc won't accept that the same and will push him. It will be the fresh start. Maybe if things are uncomfortable it will sharpen his edges again and bring out the champion. He's a professional, so he can't say things like that.

I think at the end of the day, he just needs a change. This could be great for him. Maybe he will move to RBR or Ferrari but surely putting him and Fernando together is dangerous. Both insist they would be fine with it but Lewis reacted badly when Jenson took over McLaren and Fernando didn't like Lewis being the dog's bollocks when they were together. RBR is interesting though. Mark is a season at a time man, so we shall see.
