It's an addiction. Honestly. I have to have a book on the go. I always have a book with me, wherever I go. If I ever have an occasion where I finish one book and I don't have something to hand to start within a few hours, I get really irritable and jittery. I start going cold turkey, it's not pretty.

@!$#&% Dutch Elm disease! Swept through Iowa when I was a kid and killed millions of beautiful trees. We had beautiful, old growth Elms in masses around our house (another beauty over a 100 years old) and farm and the whole place looked like a postcard. All gone. We had to start from scratch. Of course, that was 40+ years ago so the replanted trees have had a chance to grow but it's not the same.
