"So" is a causal conjuction between two statements. Starting a conversation/passage with "so" means there's nothing from which to link the conjunction.
I thought when used in such a fashion it was meant to be linking the preceding statement. So it would make sense in how I just used it here. Wouldn't it?
If one person makes a statement and you're infering something from it then yes that is fine. It's when people start a cold statement with it that irks me.
