Interviewer:….you also have another love interest on the show now.

KH: (softly) yes.

Interviewer: The wonderful actor, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who plays “Denny Duquette.”

KH: (repeats playfully)“Denny Duquette.”

Interviewer: Can you talk about, uh, what was it like when you first read that script--when and you first discovered--oh my God, you know, when his character was introduced?

KH: Um, I know a tiny bit about how its--where its going, just so that, you know, I can, as an actor, have some idea on how to start to play things--which is a really interesting concept because in life we have no idea what’s going to happen next. But, for tv or film, you kind of almost have to have some inkling of where its going so that you play the moment right for--to capture the audience’s attention. You know, so its, like, I kind of have some idea where it might be going with “Denny”, um, not a lot, but enough to know that when I read that script, and he came in and sat down at the table read that this was somebody that I was going to have a lot of work to do with, and scenes with and um, kind of building up that relationship. I was super excited about it because I just love the storyline. I think it’s so rich. There’s so much to do with it-I think Jeff is an amazingly wonderful talented actor and just a great guy. And that’s one of the really wonderful thing about our cast is that everybody’s really cool and we have a really good time together and under the amount of strain and the amount of hours that we’re working, um, to be able to laugh and have a good time is so important and Jeff fit right into that, which was really nice because you never know, you know (laughs), some actors aren’t that nice (laughs). But, we got a great cast though.

Interviewer: But what about, like, when you did work with him [Jeff], like, because there does--there is that kind of flirtatious connection there…

KH: yeah…

Interviewer: did you guys connect off-screen?

KH: Oh, absolutely! I think that, um, what I loved immediately about Jeff is that he totally-I’m kind of a quirky, odd person at times, and I think my humor can be hard to interpret (laughs) for people. And I, uh, have a tendency to kind of just be sort of all over the place and very hyper and um, he sort of got that immediately and could banter and have a good time with me on and off camera. And I think its what really, like, a lot of our first scenes together in that episode when he came in, uh, for the first time, I think so much of what ended up on screen was us just fooling around with each other and laughing and having a good time between takes and it kind of infused the scene when they started rolling, and its so important because obviously we want the audience to feel there’s a connection between us and there’s chemistry. And I do believe as an actor you can create chemistry-you can act it, um, but I think it’s so much richer if it’s already there.

Interviewer: (adds) And easier too.

KH: Yeah, certainly easier. And, again, just the laughter and the fun we can have together-is uh, it translates on this camera.
