"Bohemian Rhapsody" #3 Originally uploaded by
molanphy. Thanks to everyone who helped me celebrate my aging out of the 18-34 demographic in style. (Party was Friday night; birthday was Sunday.) Before the night was through, some 20 people packed into our karaoke "box" at iBop, and almost everyone sang.
A few milestones:
- MVP of the night: A tie between kdot, who was an unstoppable force, and my sister tinkerandcrab, who revealed her inner diva.
- Stealth MVP of the night: BLT, who crooned "Danny Boy," howled "House of the Rising Sun" and tagged in for a last-minute duet on the epic "Paradise by the Dashboard Light."
- Ringer of the night: Amy F., who came armed with pipes of gold and a jones for Alanis.
- Audience-participation highlight: "Bohemian Rhapsody," natch. Am still recovering.
- F-bomb of the night: Amy F. on "Total Eclipse of the Heart."
- Hip-hop MC of the night: tinkerandcrab on Missy Elliott's "Work It."
- Song-picker of the night: ph_carnivore, who managed to program in virtually every euroweenie Sad Bastard hit of the '80s and actually sang a few of them, too.
- Song stylist of the night: alafairnadia, who brought her unmistakeable vibe to Shirley Bassey and Sting.
- Cleanup hitter of the night: prettykate, who showed up in the middle of Hour #4 with obifu, two other friends, and her scientifically inexplicable reserves of energy.
- Group wrangler of the night: bradamant, who organized the whole damned thing and dragooned around a half-dozen friends to the mic for her pop and country favorites. Do not underestimate her persuasiveness.
I apologize for my merciless hamminess and promise not to subject you all to my voice until at least 2007.
