I got back from NYC a week ago, and one of the highlights of the trip was my row E seats at Mary Poppins. The musical was a hybrid of the best parts of the movie and new songs, dances and a bit of story line. It still pandered to a modern audience with it's little lesson on how bad nannies are and how it's better to be tended by a stay-at-home mother (P.L. Travers is rolling over in her grave). BUT it was charming and enchanting. Bert especially stole my heart which surprised me considering how much I disliked Dick Van Dyke in the movie.
And when Mary Poppins flew away on her umbrella and returned on the string of a kite, I cried. Both times! Totally unlike me but toally satisfying.
