The Glorious Fourth -- and Fifth

The Glorious Fourth -- we joined friends for the fireworks in Vienna. Due to a couple of injuries in the crowd in years past, the town used a new venue. The park itself offered a broad, fenced in soccer field, and an orange plastic fence added a few feet to the clear zone making the fireworks safe.

Safe as they were, the path to get there was that dangerous. The main access to the park was closed (I'm guessing because it opened at the end where the fireworks were set off, and people couldn't walk around to the seating area safely, which meant people had to walk through an uneven, DARK path through the woods. There were noisy generators that powered tall spotlights on the path which meant that people stumbled from an area so dark you couldn't see your feet into a piercing light that made you want to spill your deepest secrets. I thought if a four-year-old child yanked away from an adult hand and ran off into the woods, you'd have a heck of a time finding her. If someone dropped of a heart attack, you couldn't get emergency services in. Not smart; not good.

On the other hand, the night was cool and dry, there were no bugs, and the display was spectacular.

The Glorious Fifth -- today Steve and I celebrate our 39th wedding anniversary. :)
