lottery and basketball
a friend of mine won the lottery recently. but i guess technically, his mother won because he had bought the ticket for her birthday and she scratched off the winning ticket. It was one of the max-a-millions tickets and they won 1 MILLION dollars!! no kidding. His parents told him that they would split the money with him. so he's looking at a $250K pay check when they cash it in. That is the after taxes number. Its really insane how much they take away from you when you win a million dollars. It pretty much amounts to half the ticket value if you go with the lump some cash option.
there looks like there's going to be some complications with the distribution of the moneys because of certain circumstances, but i don't really want to get into that on this entry.
in other news....yesterday, i played basketball with my cousins steve and john and their friends. There were a ton of people there and the games we played were a lot of fun. I usually hate basketball because i'm not very good at it and when i play with other people that play alot, they usually get annoyed at all the mistakes i make and i end up feeling bad for messing up the game. I played with people who work at Rutgers before and they really took their games seriously. but these guys are all really cool and don't get too upset when i passed the ball directly to the other team or when i took a shot that went over the backboard. there was one incident where i tried to grab the ball from steve and he pretty much flipped out at me. but i let it go because i know he's taking steroids.
all kidding aside, i think i would play again if they ask me to. it was a great work out too.
