The average Person does not usually think about Medical Transportation until they are right smack in the middle of a situation requiring this service. In case of an emergency, which by nature of its name can happen at any one time, there is hardly any time to scroll through the air ambulance Florida directory for the best Medical transportation. The first thing most folks think of is 911. It is wise however to have alternatives, or in the very least make an informed decision.
Medical transportation may be classified under two basic categories: Emergency and non-emergency transportation. The latter is where we find Basic life support transportation. It is mainly ground transportation and may be considered the cheapest. This is a no brainer. It doesn't involve a lot of personnel or expensive high-end equipment. This is the kind of medical transportation you usually get when you call 911.
There are a few problems however. Some insurance companies are known not to cover non-emergency services, and depending on how serious the situation is, the ambulance may not be equipped with the facilities to keep the patient alive.
Emergency transportation on the other hand is a whole different story. In professional circles it is broken down into three categories, but as far as we are concerned, it is for the more life threatening cases. It comes with specialist personnel on board and is equipped with formidable lifesaving equipment.
It is under this category that you will usually find air ambulance and stuff like on-board incubators. The flip side of the coin is that it is insanely expensive. While the services are top notch, they are usually followed by a very hefty bill that even insurance wouldn't soften.
At the end of the day though, what really matters is that a life is saved. Also, I was reading this article and realized that it is wiser to discuss with your insurance representative what options are available to you well ahead of time. It will save you a massive migraine when all hell breaks loose.
