Heard from an ex....

I took my laptop to a friend's place (Bud) and he has spent several hours working on diagnosing the problem. I had told him that it was the Trojan Game Thief virus. Well, today Bud said that it was not only that virus, but some 38 others as well. These are interrupting the antivirus program, as well as have corrupted the hard drive. He has another hard drive that he can put in. I will look online to see where to get another one.

Work continues pretty well. I've been instructed to keep myself limited to my designated job duties and not in any way fill in for the vacant employee. I'm learning that's best.

Came home to a call from an ex....It was Herb, who I requested to not contact me after all of the brouhaha in 2006. He left a message saying that his friend John's brother had died of a heart attack and the memorial would be on 9/6. Herb added that that was his birthday. I haven't spoken to John in a number of years, and never met his reclusive brother, but heard a LOT about him. I will email John and express my condolences. Herb is kind of manipulative and is probably hoping that I will not only attend the memorial, but give him a ride to it. He doesn't have a car and is basically a recluse, living in one room with his cats and listening to "Coast to Coast" the radio show about paranormal events, which only augments his paranoia.

I am not on board with either of these plans, and will probably not attend the memorial unless asked by John who I found very calming, gentle and cool. Once, we had Thanksgiving dinner here, and Herb got a migraine and had to lie down. John and I sat and talked and then I played violin for him. I remember him sitting there, his hand cupping his long white bearded chin, smiling serenely at my playing. I realized that I felt more comfortable with him than with Herb. But when I broke up with Herb, it felt awkward to try to reach out to his friend, as I felt that he was angry at me for rejecting Herb. So I just eased away.
