Oh My Grife! Let's Go, Legionnaires!
Just watched the first 3 eps of the new "Legion of Super Heroes" cartoon, and it is fabulous! Oh YouTube, my love for thee knows no bounds!
Ok sure, Brainiac 5 being both my favorite character in all of comics and the character most changed for the cartoon version is very off-putting (if he is not bitchy then he is not Brainy. Sorry. I will enjoy this cute little green android as a completely different character.). And the fact that they need to have a Superman character on the show who steals all the spotlight is a downer. And the art is still kind of horrifying.
But none of that matters after watching it!
This means there are going to be little LSH fans running about playgrounds all over the nation! This means that I will most likely be able to buy a Brainiac 5 lunch-box, and all the over-priced action figures an obsessed fan-girl could ever dream of! Oh joy of joys! Saturday mornings just won me back. Sleep? Sprock sleep, I say; there is Legion to be had once again! Let the world rejoice and be glad in it! Forsooth!...um. Yeah I think that's enough.
And even better news is this "DCU DVDs" production. They say that they will be using these direct-to-retail dvds to tell all the stories from the comics that are too serious for the Saturday morning censors, and that the animation style will be unlike any of the cartoons. More true to the comics designs. I am so stoked! They say they're already working on a "Death of Superman" adaptation. (It had better have the freakin' JLI in it, they've killed nearly all of those old Leaguers in the comics these last couple years. Heck, who's left? Guy Gardner and Fire? Is that it?! Somebody's got a freakin' vendetta against the '80s or something...) Supposedly if the LSH cartoon takes off, the DVDs of classics like "The Great Darkness Saga" can't be too far off.
Personally, I'd love to watch an adaptation of "Team 20", "Legion Lost", or even "Dream Crime". I'm a '94-'boot girl. God, I miss that version. The new one still sucks. It sucks even harder now that Supergirl is the main character. "Boost sales" my ass, try "alienate all your original fan-base" nassheads. You suck, DC.
And yet, at the same time, you totally rock.
Because you finally got off your asses and made a Legion cartoon.
