Anyone else watching Marvel anime?

I'm so excited about it. I mean some of my favorite American animated heroes are being adapted for Japanese audiences in the anime style that I've always known and loved. It's two of my favorite worlds colliding. And last night after watching the sneak peek of the premieres for both Iron Man & Wolverine, I have to say that I'm really effin stoked. And Deni doesn't used the word 'stoked' that often :D

If you don't know about the Marvel anime project, I'll give you a brief run down. So Marvel entertainment and Madhouse collaborated together to adapt Marvel characters to target Japanese audiences. There are going to be four series with 12 episodes each: Iron Man, Wolverine, X-Men, & Blade (in that order). Last night G4 gave a sneak peek at Iron Man & Wolverine which will technically start next Friday night - so if you didn't catch the sneak peek, you can still catch it from the beginning on July 29 on G4. As far as I know, G4 is the only American channel showing it.

X-Men began airing in Japan in April and Blade began running at the beginning of July and I have no idea yet on when they will air here. But I'm sure that after the run of Iron Man & Wolverine they should be ready for us to see here.

So far, as much as I like Iron Man, I like Wolverine much better. The animation is gorgeous and while there is use of CG in both series, it's much more obvious in Iron Man. Seeing Logan in Tokyo is quite a change and with the crime syndicate that he's up against, it looks to be promising. The action overall is smooth is both series and the first episodes set up the coming story very well. My only complaint - and a small one at that - is some of the voice casting. While watching Wolverine, I kept giggling when hearing some of the characters talk because I knew who the English VA was immediately. Crispin Freeman does Asano's voice (he also did Itachi's voice in the English dub of Naruto) & Vic Mignogna voices Agent Takagi :D

BUT who was cast as Wolverine? Milo Ventimiglia. Yeah, the bad boy from Gilmore Girls, from Heroes fame... and I'm not sure what to think of it. *shrugs* I was expecting another well known English VA, not him, so that was a bit of a surprise. Is it weird that I think he did both a good and a bad job in the first episode? Maybe he'll make a good Logan; it's too early to judge.

What's not pretty though? The anime and comic fanboys are at war. *sigh* I'm staying out of that battle. I'm a neutral party, baby.

Anyone else on my flist watching this or plan to watch it?

wolverine, marvel anime, hey flist, iron man
