*blink, blink*

It appears that my statement in my last post (waaaay back on June 15!) came true and I totally dropped off the net for those two weeks. But, as you can now see, I am alive. Barely. Here's the rundown:

1) Working at Harlequin has been fab. Nothing like being paid way more than my Hallmark job to sit in a cushy office and type all day. Some of the work may be a tad tedious but just being able to work sitting down, getting an hour long lunch break whenever I feel like it, and access to the office gym make this a holiday compared to working at the mall. And did I mention I'm using the office of a pretty big-name exec while she's away? Sweet! Well, except for the day said exec returned from a business trip earlier than my bosses counted on and there was an extremely awkward few minutes when she walked in on some strange girl (yours truly) at her desk. Not the best first impression, to seem like a trespasser in her office, LOL. Anyway, they also asked me to stay on for the rest of the summer! Not bad for what was supposed to be a two-week gig.

2) Hallmark, in contrast, continues to suck the big one. Of course, I haven't been there that much to feel the full force of the suckitude since most of my week is spent at Harlequin now, but I do still work there weekends a couple evenings a week. And I hear things from Jen and Pau Yung, too. Our main beef is still the lack of staff. We have 8 employees right now, since Eloise let Irene's trial period run out without asking her to stay. And of those 8 people, only about four are actually running the store -- Eloise, Bev, Jen, and Pau Yung. I'm obviously going to be working at Harlequin, Kelly only works about one week a month, and Julie and Jean are too new to do anything. Jean hasn't even been trained on cash yet, and Eloise only schedules Julie in the mornings so she never gets any practice at closing, which means she will never improve enough to take over for Pau Yung and Jen! Eloise promised us that she'd hire at least two more people right after Father's Day, but here it is two weeks later and she hasn't even looked at resumes, even though Kelly, Pau Yung and Jen have put several good ones right on her desk. Even Kelly, whom I always thought was Eloise's right-hand girl, has been complaining about Eloise's total incompetence.

And then there's the continued drama of Eloise's whining about me and my work friends hanging out outside work. We went to Wonderland for Canada Day because the mall was closed, and for the week leading up to it she kept talking about it like it was some conspiracy we hatched to purposefully leave her out. She's acting like a total 13-year-old who didn't get invited to a party. It's so ridiculously immature and infuriating -- it's none of her business what we do our own time, and if we want to go to the movies or something outside work we shouldn't have to ask our manager if it's okay. I'm seriously going to say something to her if she continues to act like a bitch about this becuase she's treating us all like such crap and I've had enough.

3) But back to good things, Wonderland was friggin' awesome. Everyone (including me) thought the park was going to be packed for Canada Day since it was a Saturday, the weather was gorgeous, and they were going to have fireworks, but it was possibly the least crowded I've ever seen it. Most rides we waited about 10 or 15 minutes, and some we literally walked right onto. The longest wait we had was for Top Gun, the first thing we went on, because we came so early the ride didn't actually start until 10 minutes into our wait. I also went on Drop Zone again, and it was even more scary than the first time. I closed my eyes the entire time but I could feel the wind on my legs and knew how I high up we were, and I nearly started hyperventilating. And going down was terrible -- your butt flies off the seat so it feels like nothing is holding you in. I can't believe I let Pau Yung talk me into doing it again, but this time I swear was the last! We came at 10 o'clock and stayed until 6:30 since we were too tired, but fate was on our side since it started to rain literally as we walked out the exit. Oh, and I actually drove there! Not on the highway, but Jen knew a different route that was really easy and fast. It was such a blast, we're already talking about going again.

4) My witch trials course ended last Tuesday with the exam. It went all right but, as usual, I was pressed for time at the end. I know a few of my answers were rather good so hopefully that makes up for the ones that I bullshitted my way through. Still waiting for my mark, but I did find out that I made the Dean's List again for last year. Yay!

5) Finally saw some movies in the theatre! "The Devil Wears Prada" was quite good, as was "The Lake House". Not contenders for my new favourite movies, but good summer entertainment. I'm kinda "meh" on "Superman Returns". I'm really not into Superman -- I haven't even seen the first movie the whole way through. I thought the beginning dragged and it took a long time to get going, and I got sick of seeing things shake on the table. That happened at least four times in the film. Though, I did find the long sequence of the destruction of the railway town pretty hilarious. OMG, not the conductor! Lex Luthor, you evil mastermind!

Guess that's it for now. I'll try to update more often (assuming anything happens), but if I disappear again, no worries.
