So I've fallen out of the habit of writing entries on this blog. I've had plenty of stuff to write about, and it's not that I don't like it anymore, nor am I too busy. I'm going to try to write more often, and I'm also going to make an effort from here on to only write when I've got something worth saying. In keeping with that, I've decided to ditch the massively outdated title "Hobo Beard" in favor of something slightly more serious.

Since my return from England, I've been pretty consumed by the search for a job. I was recently hired by Starbucks and I will start training on Tuesday, but I'm also still hoping to get a job that actually makes use of some of my education, skills, and experience. To that end, I've been working a lot on my resume and applying for editing jobs.
The whole process of crafting a resume is very stressful and time-consuming, and it's very hard to resist to the temptation to just hammer something out and stick with it. I've found it frustrating to receive conflicting information about the best way to present my content (for example: focus on presenting more detail about my most important experience vs. keep things short and rely on the interview to fill in details). I also have a hard time sifting through to figure out what is really essential and what is geared more towards students who don't have enough content to fill their resume. My conclusion has been that each individual needs to figure out that balance for his or herself, and that has worked reasonably well for me so far, but it's irritating that so many of the people that are supposed to be helping just give an endless array of sample resumes to look at, along with negative feedback for reasons that are never clearly explained.

I've been playing with a very cool site that lets you make lists of goals and places you want to go and compare them to what other people are doing and have done. It's nifty!
Here's my list (only somewhat in order of priority):
Denerific wants to do 29 things

1. get into grad school 110 people
2. Get my poetry published 102 people
3. Get paid for my writing 4 people
4. get a translation published. 1 person
5. write a novel 3207 people
6. write a play 209 people
7. Get my PhD 291 people
8. find love 554 people
9. Kiss in the rain 4791 people
10. get married 5899 people
11. Buy a House 4308 people
12. Learn a third language 56 people
13. visit a new continent. 1 person
14. visit Iceland 302 people
15. see the northern lights 5169 people
16. score a goal in a real football (soccer) match. 1 person
17. attend a World Cup match. 1 person
18. see all of Shakespeare's plays performed on stage. 1 person
19. Read the entire Bible 756 people
20. Learn to play the piano 2345 people
21. visit more cemeteries. 1 person
22. read all of the books waiting on my shelf 2 people
23. spend a few days by myself at the cabin. 1 person
24. attend another Hattrick boozer. 1 person
25. bake more cookies 19 people
26. keep in touch with all of my college friends 3 people
27. watch all episodes of Roswell 3 people
28. write more letters 744 people
29. take pictures with my gnome whenever I go somewhere interesting. 1 person

That's probably enough for now, but expect an entry of some sort after tomorrow's World Cup final. I caught a severe case of World Cup fever this year, and I'm still not ready to accept that it's almost over. Let's hope the final is as good a match as today's Germany v. Portugal contest for 3rd place.
