Screenwriter's blues

Jan 19, 2009 13:15

Well i'm bored and updating again, how joyful for all of you.
now the obligatory "What I've done" section that seems irrelevant as most people who read this know what i did because they were also there.
Friday was assault, good to see most people back except those stressing about exams/essays. (Silly undergraduates, when will they learn.)Musicwise other people didn't seem to enjoy it that much but i had a good time. Danced, Drank and (insert other verb beginning with D to satisfy my alliterative rule of three) and generally had a good time especially towards the end.

Job wise I'm still waiting to hear back from the job that seems to have the infinite interview process.Had a third interview with the CEO last monday (small company so i suspect he likes to meet everyone working there) A friendly American chap who seemed keen to have me in the company. They're currently checking references and sorting everything out their end.
The job is for a small composite material(carbon fibre, kevlar type stuff) manufacturing firm. I discovered something interesting about the industry. There are a lot of similar companies around the Derby,Nottingham area and in the interview out of curiosity i asked why that was. It turns out that when people started using carbon fibre they found it was very difficult to spin and weave the carbon fibres into sheets and so went to exisitng weaving industries most of who were based around the area, so everything grew up from there. Nice to know cutting edge materials still have a basis in tradition.

Some form of income might actually mean i can start working down my list of stuff i want to buy/stuff i owe people, including:
Paying rob back for my ATP ticket
DVDs:
Second half of Cowboy Bebop series
  The Wire (all 5 series)
Oz (the last 4 series thanks to Jemma and chris buying me the first 2)
Just more DVDs to add to my collection to satisfy my pack rat sensibilities and free hard drive space.
I want a new bike as my last one was stolen (4th one in 8 years) and really want to get out on some long cross country rides for the fresh air and exercise.

I've been cooped up in my house due to lack of funds and motivation but really want to get out for a decent bit of nature and inspired by Em, Jimmer and Damian's recent excursions in the peak district i want to start reliving my boy scout past of nature hikes in the hills. Just a compass and OS map. Who wants some? Peak District let's go.

To add to my weird dream archive last night i dreamt i went to a party where i got really stoned and woke up actually feeling like i was stoned which made me think i had actually gotten stoned last night and it wasn't a dream. Ergh.

According to my calender of forgotten English today's word of the day is "Fretting frock" - A figurative garment which is supposed to clothe a troubled female. "She's got her fretting-frock on."
To contrast that, based on a msn conversation with aussie Jemma, today's new word of the day is: Intrepidation - to wait in dangerous situations without fear.
Put that in your portmanteau and smoke it.
It's also Edgar Allen Poe's 200th birthday.(also from the calender of forgotten English, most educational christmas present ever).

I'm going to stop rambling now.
