I need to stop letting myself fall asleep early in the evening (and by early, I mean like 9). I do this, and then I wake up between one and four hours later and then cannot go back to sleep. And so I have to find things to do for an hour or two until I can make myself get sleepy again. Here I am now.
Doing something productive like working on a paper or something seems like it could be dangerous in the middle of the night, but if I don't get sleepy soon, I may break out Kristeva's book on abjection. Actually, I may do that now. It would probably do the trick.
