I'm taking a class at church on Wednesdays right now called "An Ordinary Day with Jesus" and the whole idea behind it is trying to find ways to say in touch with God as you go through your daily routine.
For next week we're supposed to do a spiritual pathways assessment, which is this inventory to help us figure out what way(s) we find it easiest to get in touch with God.
The options: relational, intellectual, worship, activist, contemplative, serving, creation (nature).
Of those I was expecting intellectual, contemplative, or maybe serving.
What did I end up with? Activist.
At first I was REALLY surprised by this. I guess in my mind, "activist" equals being something like a hippie going to protests or being a lot like my old high school youth leader and getting really involved in community politics in search of social justice and equality. Things like that.
But I do feel like I'm the most on track with what God wants me to do when I'm working with kids. As I'm fond of saying, the time I spend working with the kids at church and karate is the most important thing I do every week.
And the description seems to be pretty well on, though, particularly "You love a fast-paced, problem-filled, complex, strenuous way of life." I'm still no hippie, though. :)
