Ok, Will, it's probably not the funniest one EVER, but one of the funniest things I've heard in a while.
First, just marvel at it without the background information. Quoth Harrison, an 11-year-old from church (one of my favorites from that group of boys I've had as my class for the last several years), "My dad said I can't be Shaneyney any more."
Now, for the explanation (such as it is): last year Harrison unofficially changed his name to fIl (yes, Fil, but with a lower case F, capital I, lowercase L. I have no idea where that particular detail came from). He didn't try to get his parents to call him anything different. His mom heard about it from me. Apparently all his teachers call him fIl, too. Then he added to his name changing, deciding that he is fIl on weekdays and Jason on weekends. And then as one more addition, he also decided to be Shaneyney on Wednesdays. My typical greeting for him when I see him is, "Hey, Harrison/fIl/Jason/Shaneyney or what ever your name is today." This Sunday, upon greeting him this way, he responded with the quote above. His dad says he can't be Shaneyney any more.
The great part is that this kid, for years, was probably the quietest and shiest kid I have worked with at church. Last year he really started to come out of his shell, and he's hillarious. It's good to see him making jokes and stuff.
