No longer just a "potential" experiment

A while back I mentioned how I wanted to do a little experiment to see if conservative postings at such places as on the wall beside the elevator buttons in Haley would be allowed to stay up the same as more liberal event announcements and postings. I didn’t do it back then, partly out of the reason that if I did it that way, it would be being ( Read more... )

Um, not to sound horribly naive, but what about taken down because someone was too lazy to write down the information but wanted to go?

I always assumed all the liberal stuff stayed up because no one was actually interested in it.

I tend to think people getting pissed off and taking things down is more likely responsible because of the numerous people who have told me they've seen professors gripe about something they see posted and take it down on the spot, not caring who sees them do it.

But I'm about as flaming liberal as they come, and I never tore one down--are these sightings confirmed? I mean, do you have names of the profs who take them down? They should be spanked, frankly, if this is occurring. This almost seems a bit paradoxical, though, as the original experiment was to put up conservative fliers because they don't usually go up in Haley, yet there are rumors of when they do go up, the liberals tear them down?

It seems like the flier-rippers can probably be better described as self-absorbed and self-important. The idea of tearing down a flier that is posted in a public space for a campus event should be left alone, regardless of the individual feelings. But that's just me, I guess. Either way--whether the person tears it down to save it and go to it (rather than writing it on their hand like I would do) or if they tear it down out of individual objections--the response is a selfish one.

The people who told me about it did not tell me who it was, but most of the people relaying these stories to me are liberals themselves (cause, you know, odds are they will be). I don't think that the tendency to feel entitled to take other people's advertisements down is a common one. Most people will look at it, maybe be a little aggrevated, but not touch it. I could probably generate a list of 5-10 names of people likely to feel entitled to take them down, and out of such a large department, that's really not so many ( ... )
