I've now been through my first hurricane. I've been telling the kids that this is a story they'll be telling for the rest of their lives. : )
We stayed in Houston for the storm. Power went at about 6:30 in the evening, before the actual storm hit. As for the actualy storm--it was scary in parts--at two different points, the house seemed to, well, scream, sort of. The windows rattled and the wind made scary sounds for a long, long time. Not much sleeping for the adults; the kids basically slept through. We woke up to a big mess. Electrical lines, including my meter box, were ripped off of the house. Fortunately, that's the only damage to my house. There's still a big branch on my garage; with any luck, it's done enough damage to get me a new one. : )
The three kids and I managed to get the biggest branches out to the curb (with me getting the biggest ones that were close to dodgy power lines up the driveway where the kiddos could drag them the rest of the way), so my yard doesn't look as apocalyptic as it might. Much more work to be done, though. And I'll have plenty of time, since there's no school for at least a week. Now if only my power gets fixed...but given my individual line issues, I'm not counting on it any time soon. Luckily, I have lots of friends w/power. : ) I feel extra, extra lucky that my damages were so minimum.
I'm available by cell, though texting works better than calling right now.
We're in Austin/Georgetown, planning to head back Houston tomorrow. Let the work begin!
