He is concerned, obviously, about his team members and friendly with everyone, but couldn't he come to love Naruto, Sakura and Sasuke (Not in a pervy way, OKAY???!)? Aren't they even a little precious to him? I just found it so 'aww' in a sad/sweet way when he mentally remarks that before both Sakura and Naruto would overreact to everything and they were so cute then (Me: 0____0 YATTA! *_____*) I wonder what he really feels - he acts all mysterious, no wonder Gai gets mad at him all the time. That's the, 'I wish' or 'I think might happen'. I'm not super shippy concerning Naruto right now, surprisingly, but that's just my light pass at it.
As for general relationships I love in this series, Jiraiya/Tsunade, Kakashi/Gai, Sakura/Naruto, Sakura/Ino, Chouji/Shikamaru, Iruka/Naruto. Awesome dynamic...
