When you’re sad
When you’re feeling low
When you’re hurt
And don’t know where to go
Think of me, there I’ll be
Anytime you need a friend

A knock at my apartment’s door caused me to stop cooking my dinner and wipe my hands on a dish rag before going and answering it. I was not prepared for what was waiting on the other side, because as soon as I open it a crying Selena was flung into my arms, causing me to stumble back a few before keeping us on our feet.
“D-D-Demi…” was all I needed to hear before I tighten my hold on her.
As Selena cried into the crock of my neck, my skin and shirt began to become damp with her tears, but I didn’t care I was content on her being in my arms and not in Demi’s…uhh…because Demi’s the cause of this. Yeah, I’m simply content that she’s away from the source of her pain. In a friend sort of way of course.
“Shh…it’s ok.” I gently rubbed her back and made small circles all along her spin. Her sobs were beginning to diminish and now it was mostly just hiccups.
Without breaking my hold I moved us towards the kitchen where I turned off the stove and maneuvered over to the cupboard to pull a glass out and fill it with water. I softly pulled her away and took her face within my hands and wiped away all traces of tears with my thumbs, before handing her the glass of water.
“Th-thank yo-you.” She managed to say between her hiccups.
“It’s no problem, what else are friends for.” I flashed a smile at her, and she made some attempt at returning it, but it was swallowed up by another hiccup.
“You want something to eat?” she shook her head and her gaze fell into her cup. I slipped a finger under her chin and upon seeing fresh tears in her eyes I set the cup aside and pulled her into me again.

After Selena had cried all her tears out I moved her upstairs into my bedroom and got her settled in under the covers before going back downstairs to call her mother so she wouldn’t have to worry about her.
“Hi Mandy, yeah it’s me Taylor. Selena’s over here don’t worry.”
“Yeah I’ll tell her.”
“Ok, I just didn’t want you to worry.”
“It’s no problem really. You have a good night too, bye.” I sighed once the phone was back on its base. I probably won’t find out what happened until tomorrow, and while it makes me uneasy not knowing, I know I have to wait for Selena to be ready to talk.
I flicked off the kitchen light, locked the doors, and headed up the stairs. When I entered my room I found the covers pulled back and Selena standing outside on my balcony. She was talking on the phone, and from her wild hand gestures and a few fresh tears, it was Demi. I quietly opened the door and leaned against the frame, watching her talk, but she didn’t notice me.
“I’m fine.”
“It’s nothing really, ok, yeah bye.” She hit the end button a few more times than necessary before letting out a long sigh.
“You ok?” she jumped a little at the sound of my voice before turning around and looking at me.
“Yeah I’m fine.” She looked down at the blackberry in her hands and picked at a piece of chipping plastic sticking off it.
“Ok stupid question.” She gave a slight laugh, making my heart swell and an eruption of butterflies to flutter around in the pit of my stomach.
“You wanna talk about it?”
“D-Demi told me she’s going out with Joe now. I kind of…blew up at her. I’m sorry about this, and every time I come here crying to you.” I smiled and shook my head at her.
“Don’t be silly Selly.” She giggled at the nick name and finally looked up at me.
“Thanks for being a great friend.” I felt a piece of my heart shatter at hearing her say this. I’m not really sure why, she is a great friend, my best friend in fact. I shake the feeling off and pull her into a hug.
“Anytime Lena.”
