In a
large tower, (the inside looking like
this, Zelos walked forward from a warping point and turned around to his party.
“Leave this to me.” He said with that goofy smile of his. Sheena raised an eyebrow.
“Leave it to you? What are you gonna do?”
“I figured something like this might happen, so I prepared a little something the last time we were here.” And with that, Zelos walked up some stairs away from everyone else. He turned around and faced everyone else again.
“Colette, come here for a sec.” He said while motioning her with his hand. Colette, knowing her, looked a little confused.
“Huh? Oh..okay.” She caught on and followed Zelos’ motion, walking up the stairs. Zelos walked back a little more and Colette followed. It didn’t take long for three armed angels to appear and surround Colette into a trap. Colette looked around and screamed.
“Lloyd!” She screamed, trying to reach a hand out to him.
A
woman warped above. A job well done, Zelos.
“Good work, Chosen. Now, bring her to me.” Zelos smiled at the pretty woman and did as he was told.
“Sure thing~” He said with a wave of his hand and warped Colette to where Pronyma was as the angels followed. The others were completely appalled at Zelos’ betrayal.
“Zelos!!” Genis yelled, not believing what he was seeing.
“What the hell are you doing?!” Sheena yelled also. Zelos’ signature smile disappeared. He furrowed his eyebrows and crossed his arms.
“Oh shut up, I’m just putting myself on the winning side. What you’re trying to do is hopeless and meaningless.” His voice was harsh and cold, the complete opposite of how he normally sounds.
“What’s the big deal? Colette wanted to be a sacrifice, remember?” He said with a shrug and looked at Colette.
Lloyd glared at Zelos with spiteful eyes. It was a surprise that Zelos would do such a thing to them.
“Zelos, you traitor!” Zelos smirked at Lloyd’s comment.
“It’s so funny that you would say that. It’s not like you trusted me in the first place.” It seemed like Zelos was a completely different person from all this. He showed no signs of betrayal whatsoever. Just a smile, a laugh, and even a stupid comment. But he always did that on purpose to hide who he really was. And the words coming out of his mouth now is Zelos’ true self.
“Betray you? How amusing. Zelos was our spy from the very beginning. Isn’t that right, Zelos?” Pronyma laughed, enjoying the drama it’s causing for Lloyd’s group. Zelos remained silent.
Lloyd, along with some of the others, stood back in shock. “...Is that true?” Colette had tears in her eyes.
“..It’s not true, is it? Please say that she’s lying...” Unfortunately for her, Zelos’ smirk remained.
“I side with the strongest. It was a simple matter of weighing the Renegades, Cruxis, and all of you.” Sheena’s foot stomped down at that.
“You were leaking information to the Renegades too?! I can’t believe you! I always thought you were a pervert, but I never doubted that you were a good person when it came down to it!” Zelos, on the other hand, smiled and winked.
“Why thank you my sweet, voluptuous hunny~ ♥” He turned around so his back was facing them. “But in the end, I choose this side because Mithos promised to release me as a Chosen of Mana.”
“You hate being the Chosen so much that you would betray your friends?” Zelos turned back around and gave him and the rest of the group a hard glare.
“Oh yeah I do. It’s because of that title that my life was a total joke.” His voice was getting more harsh as he went on. “I can’t stand it. I can’t wait for Seles to be the Chosen instead.”
Lloyd clenched his fist and shook his head at everything. “You’re lying! I still trust you, you hear me? You’re the one who told me I could trust you!” Zelos raised an eyebrow.
“What are you, stupid?” He turned around to Pronyma with the biggest smile on his face. “Lady Pronymaaa~ Hurry and take Colette. ♥” This made Lloyd put his head down in pure anger. He took out his swords and charged towards Pronyma and the angels.
“You’re not going anywhere!” Zelos turned around with a cold stare and blocked Lloyd’s attack with his own sword and attacked back, causing Lloyd to block as well and backed away.
“..Zelos..” The redhead smirked. “You have a duty as a guard, right?”
“I leave the rest to you, Zelos.” Pronyma said while warping herself, the angels, and Colette.
“Lloyd...Lloyd!! LLOYD!” Colette screamed as she disappeared. Zelos walked forward and sighed. “So...this is how it ends.”
“Why, Zelos? You were our friend!” Lloyd argued, his swords still in hand.
“Friend, huh? I never did get you to trust me, though,” Zelos said in a serious tone. Of course, it didn’t surprise him that Lloyd wouldn’t trust him. Who really would, anyway?
“That was..” Lloyd said with a frown, causing Zelos to laugh. “Don’t feel bad about it. I mean, I did deceive you, after all.”
“There’s got to be some kind of explanation for all this. This is just another joke, right?” Typical Lloyd, always having such a naive way of thinking. Zelos shrugged and laughed some more.
“Haha! I don’t know what to tell ya. I’m just a weak, lazy bum. All I want is a fun, and easy life. That’s it. Nothing more, nothing less!” As he spoke, a golden light appeared around him as his golden
angel wings emersed.
And with that, Zelos charged at Lloyd and gang. Lloyd, however, hesitated from the action but defended himself against him.
“Stop it, Zelos! I don’t want to fight you!” Lloyd yelled, still not believing Zelos was betraying them.
“You still think this is a joke?” Zelos asked with a laugh and began to cast a spell. “Ready for this? Grave!” Large, pointed rocks shot up from the ground and hit each member of the group.
Lloyd didn’t want to fight, and Zelos knew it. But Lloyd needed to fight in order for this to work. Zelos felt it in his gut that he was going to die, and that’s exactly what he wanted. If he died, Seles would be the Chosen. So if he could get Lloyd mad enough to fight with everything he’s got, Zelos can let his guard down.
The redhead zoomed in again, kneeing Lloyd in the stomach that knocked him down. He blocked an attack from Sheena that came headed for him.
“Y..You bastard!” Lloyd said as he glared at Zelos, wiping some blood from his mouth.
“You can call me what you like, but it’s not going to change anything.” He drew his sword and pointed it at him. “Are you ready?”
It was like instinct that Lloyd went straight for Zelos with a very hard swing of his sword. Zelos, however, blocked it with his shield. He was fighting. Good. Now he can let his guard down.
“Lightning blade!” Zelos thrusted his sword followed by a lightning strike. With Lloyd out of the way for now, he had to focus on the others. Zelos began to cast yet another spell that could damage the whole area. Mana began to gather around Zelos, along with angel feathers. As that was going on, Zelos’ mind began to wander when he first joined Cruxis in the first place.
(reading this is like reading manga)
He began to chuckle to himself now. Wow, that really was a long time ago, wasn’t it? (I mean seriously, look how short his hair was.) Now that he had enough mana, he opened his eyes with a smirk.
“Judgement!” Large beams of light shot down from the heavens in all different areas of the room, damaging each of them at different times. Lloyd charged at Zelos again and it was an on and off sword battle. Zelos took a few hits from Lloyd and had to take a few breaths. Damn, he did a really good job at making the kid angry. To his surprise, Lloyd moved in again and slammed him with extreme force with his shoulder, causing Zelos to fall over. His foot came up and he kicked Lloyd in the stomach, knocking him into the nearby wall.
They both got up and now they were staring each other in the eye. Both of them were breathing harshly. The two people who once were best buds were now fighting with all they had. It was now or never, Zelos. Both swordsmen charged for each other. Zelos swung his sword high, while Lloyd aimed lower. He brought his sword back and went for a thrust right towards Zelos’ stomach, shoving it all the way through. Zelos’ eyes widened and he gave a great shout in pain, but...laughed softly.
“Dam....hahaha...” Lloyd took his sword out and Zelos dropped to his knees as blood poured out of his stomach, coughing up blood in the process.
“Th-That was...pretty good...” Zelos said with a smile and laughed again, putting his hand over his wounded stomach and coughed more. Lloyd got down on his knees and stuck by him.
“Zelos...” he said with concerned eyes. His hands were going to help stop the bleeding, but Zelos’ hand stopped him.
“I-It’s okay. To tell you the truth, I was gettin’ pretty tired of living anyway...” Lloyd shook his head at what he was saying.
“Don’t talk like that.” Despite all the coughing, Zelos was able to give Lloyd and the others eye contact.
“O-Oh yeah.... about Colette. She’s below...in the hall of the Great Seed. M...Make sure you save her.” He started to feel real fuzzy now. Everything was a blur to him.
“W...Why did you fight us?” It seemed like Lloyd was trying to hide back tears. The always laughing and happy Zelos was now a bloody mess, literally.
“Because....my life was a mistake. But...once I’m gone...Seles might...be happier and...they’ll finally let her out of that abbey...” His eyes were starting to get heavy and his skin was getting paler by the minute. He could feel himself getting weaker and weaker as each sentence became like an entire speech for him. Lloyd looked at him in shock.
“D-Don’t tell me that’s why you...” Zelos closed his eyes for a minute. It was like his entire life flashed before his eyes, but one moment that changed his life stood out.
It was that moment that Zelos decided to give his life up for her. The one person that meant more to him then anything: his sister Seles. If he could do one thing that could make her smile, even if it would cost him his life, he would do it because he was the one that put her in that abbey. He was the one that made her hate him. He was the one that should not have been born in the world.
“Hahaha....nah, that’s just a bonus,” He said with a smile and laugh for the last time. If he was going to die, it might as well be with a smile because this was what he wanted. And he was happy for the first time in a long time.
“M-Make sure...you destroy my...Cru--xis...crystal...” Zelos’ eyes shut and his hand dropped. Lloyd couldn’t hold back his tears any longer. He put his hand over his eyes and sobbed lightly. Sheena’s fist clenched as tears began to fall down her cheeks as well.
“Damned...idiot..”
A flash of light emits as the dream ends.
[Zelos woke up with a shout. Sweat was trickling down his forehead as he was breathing harshly. He knew it already happened, but watching yourself die is....unbearable. He puts a hand over his face to catch his breath as he shuts the dreamberry off. Guess the secret's out.]
