John was in a thoughtful mood today. Between watching how expertly his boys had handled the demon in Baltimore this past weekend and Missouri's impending visit had him doing some unaccustomed reflecting on what the future might bring

Dean stuck his head into his Dad's office. "You wanted to see me?"

John looked up and smiled at Dean. "Yeah. You didn't have plans...?"

"Nah," Dean said. "Thursday's an off day for me. Aside from bugging Sammy in the library during lunch I'm free as a bird."

"Good." He gestured to the chair across from his desk. "Have a seat."

Dean did so, looking at his Dad somewhat warily. "Did I do.... I'm not in trouble am I?"

"No, course not," John assured him. "It's just... this past weekend got me thinking."

[saltandammo]

"About what?"

[demons_death]

John smiled at him. "You and your brother, you handled that demon really smooth. Didn't need me there at all."

Dean smiled softly at the praise. "We had a good teacher."

"It made it really sink in, you and Sam? You're practically grown. Ready to go out on your own."
