Sam took a careful hold of the pies as he went up to knock on the door, and gats a nervous glance over to Dean. "This is going to go well, right?"

"Of course it is," Dean said with more assurance than he actually felt, then muttered under his breath, "It better."

Sam nodded. "I just hope it's okay that we didn't wait for everyone else."

"Trying to get everyone in one place before setting out was going to be like trying to herd cats," Dean replied. "Better we get here first and they come when they're able."

"Yeah. Maybe then we prepare Dad a little before he has to see everyone in person."

John was just opening the door and so heard this last bit. "An excellent plan," he said dryly. "Except you were a little slow."

Buffy appeared behind him, sticking her head out. She smiled happily. "Hi!"

"Hi!" Sam replied, his eyes widening nervously. "How long have you been here?"

"Just a little while. We've been talking to your dad!" Buffy said brightly.

Dean barely managed to swallow his "Oh god, really?" yelp before he could say it. He swallowed and pasted on a smile. "That's... great! Everyone getting along?"

"So far," John said as blandly as he could manage in the face of the panic he saw on both his boys' faces. "We've been talking about demons."

"And salt," Dawn offered helpfully from where she was reading the spines of the books.

Demons and salt weren't exactly the kinds of topics that made Sam calm, but he certainly tried. "Oh. Great," he said. "We would have been here sooner, but we were dealing with dessert," he said, holding up the pies.

"Sammy made them," Dean put in. "I just provided some of the skut work."

Buffy gave Sam an admiring look. "I'm sure they're awesome."
