Why episode 21? This episode really stuck out to me as the best Max Heart episode, so far.
Starts out with Hikari going back to the Tako Cafe after some shopping. Normal enough. She watches a boy pick up a rock from a nearby river and showing it to his mother. This makes Hikari happy on the inside. Then OHMYGOD a bicycler collides with Hikari! Two of her oranges fall out of her grocery bag and fall into the river, but the boy runs after them and picks them up for her. Said boy returns said oranges, and both Hikari and Porun thank him before he rides off into the horizon. Wait, Porun said thanks to a civilian?! NO! (Cue opening)
Back at the Tako Cafe, Nagisa reflects on last episode (which was also pretty nice). Honoka asks if everything is okay, as Nagisa has not eaten all of her takoyaki yet. So Nagisa whips out her "Special Takoyaki Eating Technique" and eats all the takoyaki! Honoka wanted some, meanie! Anyway, the biker from before was watching Nagisa eat, and was certainly interested in some takoyaki himself...
The boy is drinking some water on a bench, and Hikari appears. She gives him some takoyaki as thanks for before, how nice. It is revealed both are the same age, 12. Hikari admires the bicycle because so much luggage is attached on it, and the boy reveals that he is on the run from his own house. Because his parents are so oppressive (no, not really). On his bicycle is a tag that says "To become a man. Daiki". So his name is Daiki, and he asks Hikari to show him a nice place.
She takes him to a hill that overlooks the city. Daiki is amazed at the view, because the city is so different from his own. But Hikari lies down on the grass and looks at the sky and clouds. Daiki does the same, and they see a bird in flight. Daiki wishes out loud he could fly, forget everything, and have the freedom to do whatever he desired. Hikari takes a more realistic view: Because the bird has a place to land and rest, it can continue to fly in the sky. Then, a nice breeze blows.
Later, Hikari and Daiki are on the riverside. Daiki picks up a transparent stone and says it was a specialty of his whenever his family went out to the beach. Hikari tries finding one of her own. Daiki looks through the stone and remembers his past on the beach, staring blankly into the stone. Hikari walks to his bicycle and attaches something. Daiki asks what she put on, but Hikari responds by saying "It's nothing."
The duo are walking when Hikari asks what Daiki thinks of his parents. He recalls his dad is always at work and his mom talks a lot. He says his dad sometimes plays ball with him, and his mom's cooking is pretty tasty. Hikari ponders about more, and Daiki says they feel warm... then questions his own thoughts. Daiki then takes out the stone he picked up earlier and thrusts it into Hikari's open palms. Hikari is reluctant to take it, but Daiki insists, so Hikari says thank you.
Much later, Hikari is back at the cafe. Akane was very worried, and Hikari is sorry for making her so. Daiki takes the blame because he says he asked Hikari out to play, but Honoka and Nagisa say otherwise. Hikari is stuttering, as if she has something to say... and then admits she is hungry! XD! Akane prepares some stamina takoyaki, and Hikari wolfs it down like Nagisa after an intense lacrosse game! Akane is convinced Hikari is okay. Daiki watches the scene and wonders if his parents are worried, just like Akane was.
Finally, Daiki waves goodbye and sets off to return home. Nagisa and Honoka understand the story now, and Akane says the first step to being a man is to understand the value of parents. Nagisa and Honoka ask Hikari about the stone, and Hikari replies by saying it is just that... but it holds precious memories. Daiki returns home and his mom scolds him at first, but then hugs him tightly. The screen shifts to the bike, and above Daiki's "To become a man. Daiki" tag is one attached by Hikari: "I wish Daiki would make up with his mother. Hikari."
There has not been an Precure storyline of this caliber before, or after! Except for Splash Star, but just like Hikari said: The best episodes are often found in mediocre territory. Amazing.
Episode Rating: 9/10!
Post-Script: I ignored the important plot about the Dark King and Hikari, as well as the fight. That was secondary.
