Ever had a day where you just felt like spending money? I had one of those today. Luckily, since pretty much every single family friend has recently presented me with graduation reward money in amounts of no less than $20 and no greater than $100, I have a lot of cash this summer. And I do mean alot...out $200+ bucks for Laur's shiny new guitar, and I *still* have about another two hundred bucks in cash, and practically another hundred in gift cards.
...Or at least, I *did*. Went to the mall with Laur, my last Barnes & Noble giftcard (which was down to only about eight bucks after those manga volumes, and don't worry; I still have all the ones for Borders) and a hundred dollars in those pretty new twenties with the peach spots on them (don't you just love how they're always redoing the currendy now? Swear to gods in a few years they're just going to give up and start making the money tie-dyed neon blue and purple. Or just make all money virtual, like on such fututistic programs as "Batman Beyond"...which I miss dearly, by the way. I pine for you, Blight).
First I hit Borders and used up my giftcard plus some cash to get two Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter novels (never heard of them? Critics have called it an R-rated alternative to "Buffy", and rightly so. If you like vampire books, the first one is called "Guilty Pleasures". Author is Laurell K. Hamilton. Go. Now.)...the first one was on my birthday present wish list, and the other one I just figured I might as well, because it's kinda silly to leave your gift card with just a dollar and some change left on it.
Then we wound up all the way down at FYE, where I couldn't resist getting another MST3K DVD volume. Volume 5: "Boggy Creek II: The Legend Continues", "The Touch of Satan", "Merlin's Shop of Mystical Wonders", and "Time Chasers".
Then we strolled around and discovered Bath and Body Works was having one of those sales where they've marked down large quantities of this 'n' that. I saw a shirt I wanted at JC Penny's (yes, I am so very much not a label girl: I just don't get the whole Gap/J. Crew/Abercrombie thing. It's a goddamned t-shirt, and I like the stuff at Sears/Penny's/Kohl's/Kaufmann's better anyway; much cuter) so we went down, got that (beige spagetti strap marked down from $18 to $10), and then came back to Bath and Body. Spent a good long time pawing through the bins to figure out how much stuff I actually wanted that I could get for ten bucks, since I wanted to be able to say I came home with at least a little money left. Ended up with Cucumber Melon Body Scrub (my favorite scent!) for four bucks, small thing of pore-cleansing shea mask for three (I was fresh out; by the time I use this much smaller than usual bottle, they'll be having some kind of deal where you get a free soap with a ten dolar purchase, so I'll be ready), and some shampoos and soap for a dollar each. Total came to nine-something. Went home with six bucks in cash and maybe another dollar in change.
We also had an amusing incident where Laur mistook the tear-off calender on the Harry Potter Book 6 release dates countdown thingie at Barnes & Noble for some kind of coupon or contest entry. So she ripped off the thing saying there was only 19 days left to reveal....."Only 18 Days Left". I shrieked "What are you doing??" and she basically went "Oh. CRAP." We high-tailed it of there, and laughed about it later.
I congratulated her on successfully discovering the long-hidden secret to time-travel.
Anyway, we came back home and watched "Merlin's Shop of Mystical Wonders" on my new DVD. Very, very funny. Then
eliara called from the UK, and we talked to her for a bit about British slang and how it's sooo sad that, since she's there so her mom can do Great Aunt deathbed duties, the only British men she's had a chance to meet are her relatives. I keep trying to remind her that her heritage is also southern, but she just doesn't seem to want to go there for some reason.
Today I have...played the Sims2 (yes, I'm back into that now...fear for my soul), watched "House" ("Detox": addiction is baaaaad), and started reading the first of the Anita Blake stories. Zombie Priestesses are freaky, yo. And evil.
Tomorrow I need to call Helen about coming up to the lake this weekend, and go over to Grandma's to move a ginormous tree limb from her backyard.
I also think I'm going to walk up to Blockbuster's and use up part of the gift card Jessica gave me to rent Rocky Horror Picture Show so I can finally see it. Hey, I might as well lose my virginity on that subject before the other one, or things may get awkward down the line.
Plus, I've been wanting to go see it in theatres with the crazy people yelling things sometime, and I figure I better actually more or less know the movie first.
On Friday, it looks like I will be seeing Howl's Moving Castle at the Cedar Lee with Rachel. There goes tat extra six bucks...well, it's for a very good cause.
