Nostalgia

I just can't, I just can't
Seem to get started
Don't have the heart to live in the fast lane
All that is past and gone

I forgot to mention that I saw the last half an hour of the Brave Little Toaster on TV this weekend.
Man, did I watch that movie all the damn time as a kid, or what? But you know what...I can still understand why. It's a great movie, and the songs are awesome. I think my only regret about rewatching it this weekend is that I only caught that small part...but at least I got to see one of my two favorite songs from that movie, "Worthless."

Worthless
And there ain't nothin' you can do about it
Worthless
Pardon me while I panic!
Worthless
Worthless
Worthless

It's set at the point where the Toaster and his buddies have been sent to the garbage dump by their Master's newer appliances. The gang is down in the dumps, both literally and figuratively, convinced that their Master doesn't need or want them any more. Then the big magnet comes along and starts picking up junk from the heap and dumping it on the conveyer part to be compacted. The cars in the junkyard start singing "Worthless" as they get smashed. It's pretty much my favorite, along with the "B Movie" song, that unfortunatly had already happened by the time I started watching.
Man, I love that movie...

I was in the Indy 500
I must confess I'm impressed with how I did
And I wonder how close that I came

Okay, so, all this talk about the Oscars? Can't relate. At all. Not about how good/bad Chris Rock was, not about how beautiful/trashy so-and-so looked, not about how terrible/wonderful the new presentation style is, not about how great/horrible it is that such-and-such film lost such-and-such award. Didn't watch a second of it. Hell, I don't even know who won...anything.
And you know what? I don't care. I've never watched a single award show in my life, and I never plan to. I find them rather boring and pointless. Much like sports...never watch those, either. Or the news, but that's another story.

So we finished watching The Patriot in class today.
Okay, the scene where Gabriel and some of his militia buddies come riding over the ridge on the unsuspecting Dragoons...and Tavington's in the middle of shaving in the stream. With his hair down. And his shirt open. Uh GUH. And then he proceeds to kick militia ass (oh wait, was I supposed to be rooting for the Americans?) with the expert aiming of the pistols and the expert handling of the sword and the killing of the Reverand and the almost dying but not really dying and the stabanation of the Gabriel, all the while with his not-in-the-middle-of-shaving-when-the-militia-attacked men floundering about like the Not!Tavingtons that they are and dropping like clueless loser flies...
Well, great, there goes my other ovary. Jason Issacs has officially made me barren with his hotness.
And I don't mind one bit.

EDIT: Caught a huge typo, and I actually bothered to look up the full lyrics to "Worthless".

(Note: When the song is actually playing, it's interspaced with dialogue that's going on in a scene it keeps cutting to. I took that out here.)

I can't take this kinda pressure
I must confess
One more dusty road
Would be just a road to long
Worthless...

I just can't, I just can't
I just can't seem to get started
Don't have a heart to live in the fast lane
All that has passed and gone

Worthless
There ain't nothing you can do about it
Worthless
Pardon me while I panic!
Worthless
Worthless
Worthless

I come from KC Missouri
And I got my kicks down on Route 66
Every truck stop from Butte to MO
Motown to Old Alabama
From Texarkana and east of Savanna
From Tampa to Old Kokomo
Worthless...

I once ran the Indy 500
I must confess I'm impressed how I did
And I wonder how close that I came
Now I get a sinking sensation
I was the top of the line
Out of sight out of mind
So much for fortune and fame

Once took a Texan to a wedding
Once took a Texan to a wedding
He kept forgetting his loneliness
Letting his thoughts turn to home
And we turned

I took a man to a graveyard
I beg your pardon
It's quite hard enough
Just living with the stuff I have learned
Worthless...

Once drove a surfer to sunset
There were bikinis and buns
Filled with weenies
Believe me just couldn't forget
Pico lets go up to Zuma
Pico lets go up to Zuma
From Zuma to Yuma
The rumor was
I had a hand in the lay of the land
Get up and go hit the highway!

Oohh woohh...
I worked on a reservation
Oohh oohh...
And who would believe
They would love me and leave
On a bus back to old Santa Fe?
Once in an Indian nation
I took the kids on the skids
With a Hopi was happy to lie there and say

You're worthless

cartoons, song lyrics, movie
