Considering the timing, it's probably not surprising to anyone who pays attention to these fannish things that there are a lot of vids on the internet right now that I find awesome.
But here are five that I completely adore and feel like absolutely everyone should see:
Ride to California by
bradcpu (Avengers film verse)
I am such a sucker for a fast-paced slick action vid set to a rockin' beat. This was put together before Avengers came out so it uses mostly footage from the previous films with a little bit from the trailer; to me it captures perfectly that gleeful building anticipation I had in the months leading up to the movie's release. Every time I've rewatched this so far, I've been unable to resist clapping my hands together at some point with squee.
Mama Said Knock You Out by
absolutedestiny (Avatar: The Last Airbender and Avatar: The Legend of Korra)
It never fails to both please and amuse the hell out of me how well Toph Bei Fong can be vidded to rap music, and this vid proves that Lin inherited her mama's funk in that regard. As well as everything else that is badass. A great side-by-side comparison as well as a grinning, hand-carved love letter to the unstoppable force of nature that is the strength and determined fire of both these ladies.
Heads Will Roll by
hollywoodgrrl (Game Of Thrones)
Oh good god. Definitely one of those you need to watch more than once, because it moves so fast and weaves so much the first viewing will leave your jaw dropping. Also one of those that kind of pairs a "wait, what?" song choice with a serious play on the imagery - but it works very well together and in the end becomes this sort of gritty black comedy. It is amazing how much from two whole seasons is in here.
Starships! by
bironic (multifandom)
A happy celebration of all things space related, and how one of the reasons we love sci-fi is because spaceships and space travel are fucking cool. I love well done multifandom vids because of what it looks like when similar clips from so many different sources are side-by-side, and this vid utilizes about thirty different ones (assuming we count Star Trek incarnations individually). Some sections read as downright epic; wouldn't have it any other way.
Ramalama (bang bang) by
flummery (Once Upon A Time)
I fucking love this vid so much. First of all, it's a beautifully made vid for Once Upon A Time, a show I sometimes feel isolated in my love for. Second of all...there is no second of all, unless you count "Everything about it" as one thing. The song is unique and cool, the clip choices utilize the beat perfectly, and the narrative is one of my favorites from the canon: how the Queen and Rumpelstiltskin are legitimately threatening and sinister forces while still being these complex at-times tragic characters. A must-see for any fan of the series.
