Okay, I keep meaning to boost the signal on this and pass on the links, and then for some reason I keep just...not. Idek, maybe I've got it in my head you all must simply know about this already? Well, sorry for what must be spam then if I'm right about that, but if not, then here is something I think that just about everyone I know would want to see.
So, very very quickly now, before I forget yet again, here is a link to a post on
cleolinda's journal:
Wicked Pretty Update #5: Wick Harder As you can probably tell from the title, it is only the latest in a series of posts she's been making on the subject on a small, shall we say kerfluffle that's been going on in the YA writing/publishing community lately. The major starring players are about ten or so authors, an editor, a publishing company, but...well, you'll see.
Luckily she links all the previous entries in the beginning of the post AND sums up everything that's happened so far for the time-stretched, though IMO reading all the previous posts (and perhaps some of the articles linked to therein, as well) is more recommended if you really want full context, to whit, on what the ever-buggering hell is going on here.
I'd prefer you all just go ahead and read her entries, because I'm sure she's summed up far better than I ever could, but briefly and just to give an idea, here's what seems to be happening.
1) An author wrote a male/male romance story as their contribution to a YA fantasy anthology,
2) The editor of said anthology requested that this author change one of the characters in the story to female in order for it to be used in the anthology,
3) The author did not want to change their story, and decided they no longer wanted to participate in the anthology either,
4) Everyone went on the internet to talk about this building incident in one form or another,
5) Fans; shit hit them,
6) And Then It Got Worse.
Or in other words, there's plenty for everyone in here to get mad over, LGBTQI rights-supporter and writing industry person alike! Whoopie!
