I had a great time at the Great Lakes Medieval Faire on Saturday. I got to see
ravin_raven again, yays!! It had been too long. And
ezazahaz was there, and Liz (who brought a friend), and Schbabs, and Emily, and MJ, and Stephanie, and Rob, who totally looked like a pimp with nine bitches hangin' offa him. Ye-AAH.
It was ridonkulously hot, so I drank a lot of soda. Which was probably a really bad idea since I started feeling pretty ill. But then I had some water, and it was all better.
The Faire is set up in a wooded area, so there was a lot of natural shade, which was great. There were a lot of interesting booths to look at, but somehow I restrained myself and only bought a belly-dancer style sarong with all these shiny jinglies hanging off it. (Was sorely tempted by a $70 silver and hematite necklace, though. Sorely tempted. 'Cus, you know, I totally haven't bought enough jewelary yet this summer, or anything.)
There were a lot of really great shows we caught too. Very funny. Like the musical adaptation of Hamlet. Or the display of full-contact accurate fighting techniques over in the Viking-ish part of the Faire.
Closing was nice too: they had a Pub Sing, and they actually closed with "Health to the Company", the same song we use at our Faire at OSU.
I'll leave you with this little gem of an exchange, which involved the guy playing King Arthur trying to give a closing speech, and a very drunken pirate who I'm presuming is a regular:
"-and I think we really struck a blow."
"Long live the King for his blow!"
*laughter from audience*
"Just keep drinking, Dave."
And then on Sunday I hung out at the mall with
eliara, and then we went to see a later showing of Julie & Julia, which is a very excellant and funny movie that will also make you very hungry after watching it. Preferably for things drenched in butter.
And then yesterday, I went to dinner at the Cheesecake Factory with Mom.
I've also been doing some reading over the past couple of days. I read Ever, another book by the same author of Ella Enchanted, got caught up on volume eight of Rosario + Vampire, and finally finished Persuasion (nice...eleventh-hour plot twist, there, Miss Austen). I also burned through Snow Flower and the Secret Fan in about two days. Mom promptly claimed it.
And now I'm reading the last two books of Gossip Girls. What?
