Today is my birthday, nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh...
Yesterday I got off of work at about two, ran to the bank, got gas, and was on the road to Cleveland by a little before four because, dammit, I was going to celebrate my birthday with my best friend (who I hadn't seen in months!! MONTHS, people) if it killed me.
Well, actually, I guess the fear was that it might end up killing Joey, my faithful '95 light blue Taurus. But we made it the whole way there and back again (hobbits not included) without incident. He's a trooper, that Joey, especially since we had to completely navigate around the construction-filled hellhole that is currently 315. Thank you, MapQuest.
I think the highlight of the whole drive up was when at some point, the radio announced that it was playing a song by The Fray called "Heartless". My thought immediately was "Oh, The Fray have a song called 'Heartless' too?" Because that is, you might be aware, the name of that one RB song that is okay maybe the first three times you hear it, tops, and then after that gets pretty damn old fast. And considering just how often that song gets replied on the radio, it happens pretty damn fast.
But no, it turns out that The Fray's song "Heartless" is...a cover of the other "Heartless". Cue me grinning like a lunatic in a car by myself on I-271. In addition to the inherant lulz produced by the leader singer of Fray soulfully talking about his "homies", I actually think their version is a lot better than the original. Or at least, I like it.
But anyway! The Lauren was successfully retrieved, we went to Winking Lizard for dinner, and we got back on the road by eightish.
Plans for today include Mystery Science Theater and going to German Village for dinner at Schmidt's Sausage Haus (you know it's authentic German when have you to say it like that) and the Three Musketeers in Schiller Park. That is, if I can figure out which bus we have to take to get there.
Good times ahead! WHEEEE.
