Went to see Up with Dr. Just-Friends.
My message of the day? Go see Up. Everybody. I'm serious. If you don't enjoy this movie, you may very well not be in posession of a soul.
I just...I'm having a hard time coming up with a way to accurately get across just how good this movie was without going into detail.
Or rather, I feel like I shouldn't have to, Dr. Just-Friends probably said it best: "It's a Pixar movie." If you know what's Pixar's usual product is and are a fan of their work, then you know exactly what you're getting from Up and should, theoretically, be interested in seeing it already. If you do know what Pixar is like and still aren't already interested...well, I guess I can't really help you.
The story is so well done. It's amusing and adorable (my god, the characters...I can't even; suffice to say I loved everybody) and there are these wonderful little moments that just bring the whole thing to life, and overall it's just so interesting and unique. I honestly don't know how they come up with such ideas, because it's so clever and captivating and original in ways that you really don't see all that often anymore (let's face it, I'm not going to say that there haven't been some great movies the last couple of years, but I think we can all agree that the concepts have gotten pretty derivitive).
And, oh my gosh, it's so moving. There are at least two moments in the film that are designed to jerk at your heart, and I came very close to tearing up at the end of the first one, and I did tear up at the second. (They almost got me in the short too, btw - I swear, every time it's like I somehow manage to forget just how a-maz-ing Pixar shorts are, and then they remind me, BIG TIME.)
I realized afterward, the message of Up is this: enjoy your life. Love what you get to experience, take the chances you have, and don't mourn the ones you miss. Don't get too caught up with regret for what you never did, or stuck obsessing over good times that are now gone, to the point where you forget to enjoy all the wonderful memories you do have. Don't turn something you love into a cross that you bear. Remember that things may end but life goes on - once you find yourself at an ending, then go find a new beginning. Treasure the people that come into your life and the new opportunities they surprise you with, even if at first you don't know what to make of them.
It's a beautiful message for a beautiful movie. And the way it gives it to you is a ride, an adventure, of which you will enjoy every minute.
Go see Up. I promise you won't regret it.
