You Must View All Things You Love With Honesty

Because I'm still bored, cranky and random, I bring you this self-made meme.

I dunno: read it, ignore it, copy it for your own purposes if you like. Really, I'm just killing time.

EDIT: Duh, completely forgot the disclaimer: don't take any of this as aimed at people on my flist, by the by. All of these are intended as commentaries on the major trends of the fandoms in general, which tend to be, sadly...well, fanDUMB.

Ten Things That Annoy Me About My Fandoms:

1. Back when the Gargoyles episode "Future Tense" aired, I took it as face value that the whole point of including Brooklyn/Demona was as yet another touch to show how incredibly WRONG everything had gotten. But, these days I find it's one of the bigger pairings for the fandom. *twitch*

2. I enjoy many lovely, smart, cracky, beautiful and oftentimes downright epic fanvids for Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I have yet, however, to really find any fanfic that I like. *shrug*

3. Seriously, am I the only slasher who enjoyed the Pirates of the Caribbean movies that still doesn't want to see Elizabeth Swann dipped in acid, eaten by cannibals and set on fire? (Hell, sometimes: am I the only fan, period?)

4. Okay, my main problem with the Lost fandom right now is how I've come to feel so detatched from it. Which is really more my problem than anyone else's, so...eh. But also: not everyone has to be gay, all the time, you guys. No, really.

5. I do love how the fic for the Harry Potter fandom can bring out the crazy like nobody's business. I do not love, however, the way it can also bring out the monstrously bad writing. Of all flavors, too: out of character, bad porn, schmoopy, bad plot, bad grammer and spelling...and do not get me started on the Sues. My eyes will never recover from some of the Sues.

6. This really falls as a subset of the "Die For Our Ship" phenom, which, btw, is probably my biggest fandom pet peeve of all time. But this one especially gets my hackles raised because it involves my beloved Largo siblings, which you may have noticed I do so love as a set. So, Repo! The Genetic Opera fans: if you're gonna write fic pairing two of the Largos, you really do not need to go out of your way to make the third one look bad. You could always just, you know, IGNORE THEM.

7. I used to find a lot of amazing fanfic for House floating around the internet. But now it's been quite awhile since I've even seen any. Of course, it's admittedly been awhile since I've really gone looking, since I haven't been watching this season. So maybe it's just another "me" thing.

8. If you watch Battlestar Galactica, you apparantly either A) love the Cylons to pieces and spend the rest of your time pissed off at the stoopid hate-filled humans, or B) go giddy ga-ga over the pilots humans and wish everyone would shut the frak up about the damn homocidal robots already. There's enough character to go around, you know. Can't we all just get along?

9. Thanks to Harry Potter, I thought I knew what rabid terrifying shipping wars looked like. And then I discovered the wank produced by the fandom for Avatar: The Last Airbender. Oh my god, you guys. Please stop wishing death on each other, for reals. Simmer the fuck DOWN.

10. After rediscovering Batman Beyond this summer, I still haven't stopped mourning the fact that this show aired before the art of internet fandom was really invented. Because, seriously, with the characterization, world and plot this series provides, I can only begin to imagine the great places a fully-fledged fandom could/would have taken it. So, yeah...my problem with this fandom is that it doesn't exist.
