It's So Much Better On Holiday

Happy Fourth of July, y'all! To those of you that celebrate it, that is. Hope you had a red white an' blue spangled day, complete with fireworks and all those other vestiges of classic Americana.
And to the international crowd......happy Wednesday!

The last two days have been busy busy busy. Things are exactly as I remember up at the Danbury excavation, meaning lots and lots of old bones. Oh, and dirt. Can't forget the dirt; plenty of dirt to spare.
No burials turning up in our unit yet, but there's a massive feature stain in ours that's already yielded some bone fragments. Plus there's a large oblong shape in the dead center that looks kind of promising in that telltale fashion. Tomorrow we should finally get to cross-section them and see, so we're very excited.
Meanwhile, Jim and his "harem" are taking apart the third or second layer of bones in their ossuary, Lynne and her two gals finally found a fractured cranium after a good seven centimeters of concrete-esque dirt, and Glenn and co cross-sectioned a feature to discover an infant skull at the bottom.

I got to cross-section two potential post-holes. One actually was. The other wasn't. Guess which one I had to dig deeper on before its true nature was revealed?

Finished reading The Golden Compass today. Phew. Resting my braincells with another volume of Gossip Girl (my literary guilty pleasure) before moving on to The Subtle Knife.
(...Is it normal that I should hate both of Lyra's parents now? This is sort of awkward.)

Also, I forget to mention that Mom told me my BPAL package arrived on Monday morning sometime after I left with Dad (I'll leave the details of the utter joy of that two hour "My First Trip Driving On The Freeway With My Occasionally High-Strung And Generally Irate Father" car ride up to your imagination, by the way) to drive up to the boat here, so that's waiting in my room for when I get home this weekend. Glee!
