So I have been voluntold for a CLS (Combat Lifesaver) class next week. I wasnt bothered really, because A) I'd be doing something and B) I'd be getting out of work early. So my sergeant starts explaining the course a little to me and it doesn't sound too bad, then this exchange happens:

"You're not afraid of needles are you?"
"No."
"Well, you'll be learning how to stick people with them, is that ok?"
"Yeah, don't see why not. Thats why it's a class right? To teach me."
"Yeah, you'll be getting stuck with one, too."
"Thats alright."
"By someone else learning how to do it."
"I immediately don't like this."

He goes on to explain that this person will be sticking me again and again until they get it right, and if they "use up" the arm, they go to the HAND, if they use up the hand, they go to the OTHER ARM, and then the OTHER HAND. He suggested I do some hardcore recon on the first day and find the guy who isn't a complete idiot to be my "study buddy".

Oh, also, those things that get stuck up your nose to help you breathe? Yeah, I have to learn how to do that, and possibly have it done to me. I remember in basic being told that its easy to fuck up and break someones nose and possibly shove this thing into their brain if you arent careful. So... if I die in my CLS class, just remember it was in service of this great country.

I know what some of you are thinking, "Oh, it's EMT school!" No, it's Combat Lifesaver. I am learning how to do this shit under fire, and on the last day they expect me to do it at combat speed. In addition, Im not learning how to save someones life per-se, just keep them alive long enough to get them to the nearest Medic or get them to a hospital in the rear. So this course will involve a lot of lessons on how to improvise.

Never know, could be fun.
