Heartbreak is a very tough time in any person's life. It can seem like a long, lonely road, but it's one that you do not have to walk forever. You may feel like everything's falling apart and there's nothing you can do about it. You may feel like this is the end-all moment. However, neither are things are true.
The first step in the road to recovery is accepting the fact that a chapter of your life has come to an end. But just because a chapter ends, doesn't mean the book is over. The Book of Michael Vincent Figueroa has only just begun.
The next step is to stop looking at what has gone, but rather to look at what is still there. You've got a family that loves you, friends who will support you, and a promising career. While the game of life hasn't turned out quite the way you've wanted it, you still have a winning hand.
Thirdly, reflect upon who you were when it started and who you've become since then. How have you grown? From there, see what changes need to be made to become the person you want to be. Set out goals for those changes and make them happen.
The last step is the hardest step to do and where most people get stuck in a rut. Once you've ascertained who you are and what you have, reopen the book and write the next chapter. It may hurt at first to open yourself back up, but it's something that must be done at some point. God willing, you've got a long life ahead of you. What you do with it is up to you. Things are going to be different but that's one of the inevitabilities of life. The wheels of change are always in motion. It is up to the individual to determine where those wheels take them.
I really hope that this helps you put things in perspective--even though it feels a bit like I'm preaching to the choir. You've definitely taken things a lot better this time around. Maintain a positive attitude--it's your best weapon at this point. Remember that it's always darkest before dawn.
