Friday night ruled. Period. I had found out a couple days ago that one of my new favorite groups, The Secret Machines, were doing a show in Raleigh. Chandler and I left about 9:30pm from my house, after we had watched the god awful cinematic abortion known as Zombie 3. It took us about 40 minutes to get into Raleigh, which was a bit delayed due to traffic. We had to drive through a part of Raleigh that you wouldn't normally find 2 young, virile, 22 year old Caucasian males in (aka a bad black neighborhood). We were both on guard and a little weary of all the loiterers but we ended up at the Lincoln Theatre in fine condition. There were probably only about 50 people at the show and it was mostly a sausage fest. 90% of the girls there were with their boyfriends and the other 2-4 all looked to be jailbait. But The show was EXCELLENT for 2 reasons:
1.) The price was UNFUCKWITABLE. $8 for 3 bands. That is insanely good considering Chandler and I skipped seeing The Talk (the first opener)
2.) We caught Helio Sequence opening up for The Secret Machines and suffice to say, both groups were dope. I really haven't heard such good music in a long time.
I think Helio Sequence had a very interesting set with the light show and all but some of the music was odd. I wasn't sure if they were more blues/rock or more like alt/college-rock but they were definitely good to say the least. The Secret Machines were sweet too. They had probably the simplest lighting of any group I've ever seen but it worked like fucking gangbusters. Each member of the group had 1 large light shining either behind him or to the side of him. They would alternate between a blue light and a normal light also which added some nice ambiance as well. After the show, Chandler and I ended up snatching some of the posters that were hung up in the venue. We got like 4 or 5 nice looking posters so that was cool too. But that's it. Nothing much else going on. If anyone wants to get in touch with me, I'll be around. You know what to do.
