Bomberman Madness - Take 2

May 18, 2008 12:05

So, after that crazy birthday spree I grabbed up some more cheap games on eBay, mostly Bomberman. If you should have a desire to see the photos of said games, continue onward. I have been sick as a dog due to some issue with conflicting allergy meds and all the rest of the stuff I was given to take, I am guessing. Fighting the onset of bronchitis and hoping I avoid it. :(

. That is what I ramble on about here. Being ill, waiting for things to happen, getting packages in the mail. In addition I will link you at the end to my Flickr account with lots of photos of me baking hot pepper corn muffins for a former classmate's graduation bbq the 10th. I had so much fun making the corn muffins and the cornbread, but spiced up. :D

Anyways, on to Bomberman. Some of these games I had been looking at for years and Uncle Sam giving me back a little bit of my taxes allowed me to waste cash on them. Of course, I gave the money back to Japan mostly, though I did have 2 domestic auction wins. The first game I'll mention is one that is a bear to find cheap complete, so I cheated and got it with only the game and manual. Domestic US Nintendo 64 Bomberman 64: Second Strike, which as it turns out is decently fun to play.

The other domestic US title I picked up was Sega Dreamcast Bomberman Online since I might be getting one of these eventually. Also, I saved the amount of shipping I was expecting to pay on 3 games below when the seller combined it all and it turned out to be cheap as hell to ship EMS, so decided just to get this with the profits of that awesome deal.

The rest of the games were all Japanese imports. They included Super Famicom carts, which play on an SNES once you snap off some useless tabs inside the slot on the console, GameBoy Color, and GameBoy Advance games (both of which play normally on those portable systems or in my case, the GameBoy Player on the GameCube without any snapping or mods).

As far as SFC games goes, I have half of the released Japanese titles for the console now, only needing to buy complete copies of Super Bomberman 1, 2, 4, and 5. I have the US releases of 1 & 2 though, so I've got plenty of time to find good Buy It Now prices with fair shipping costs. This time I got two Bomberman games in the spin-off series of sorts, B-daman where you do not drop bombs but shoot energy marbles out of your gut that trigger explosives in the surrounding. I also nabbed a non-Bomberman game that was cheap as hell complete and seems fun so far.

The B-Daman games included SFC Bomberman B-Daman and Super B-Daman, the first one came with the marble shooter toy naturally. Of interesting note, I do also have the Bomberman head-shaped multitap for the SFC/SNES mentioned in the advertisement on the second image. lol

The non-Bomberman game came into play when I lost an auction that went higher than I wanted to pay. I was going for the original version of the Japanese import of Saturn Bomberman, as I have the Japanese Netlink version and the Japanese Hits version, both of which are the same game mostly but have different covers. It's cheap normally but someone bid it up past where I wanted to pay, even for shrinkwrapped. Anyways, that SFC game below, the back cover anyways, shows you what games are on the cart, though some people disagree how good of ports they are from the original arcade versions. The three games on this Nichibutsu Collection are Moon Cresta which is a great shooter in the vein of Galaga or Phoenix, Crazy Climber which reminds me of Beauty and the Beast for IntelliVision for some crazy reason and I entirely suck at the game, and lastly Frisky Tom which plays something like Pipe Dream but with rodents causing the mayhem and your own dumb fingers causing you to fall off the pipes.

We're almost done, don't get your pants in a bunch. ;) The last two titles obtained from the Land of the Rising Sun were for GameBoy Color and GameBoy Advance respectively. I had played them both a shitton on the emulators and enjoyed them both. The first one is B B-Daman Bakugaiden V: Final Mega Tune which is based on that anime series of the same name B B-Daman Bakugaiden V that has yet to be fansubbed. A few episodes of it are on YouTube, and you can buy the whole Cantonese dub of the series on VCD from China, but only the previous anime series IV is completely available in Japanese original audio, Cantonese dub, a couple fansubs, and even a couple Korean and Thai dubs as well. If you are into that sort of thing, let me know and I will url you to the YouTube groups where this can be seen. The other title is Bomberman Jetters: Game Collection which is an amazing game based on the latest entry in Bomberman anime, Jetters, which received a fansub of its 52 episodes by AniKraze. The game has 3 basic modes. Bomberman Pinball, BattleMode (with nearly every character from the anime playable and having awesome special skills), and 18 Mini Games (such as vegetable chopping, putt putt golf, and bomberman clones of older arcade games you might recognize such as Buster Bros). On a final note, I love how small these boxes are. They are so awesome and easy to display on the DVD shelves. :D

So, that's the Bomberman madness for this month. I do not plan on going into such insanity for a while, so rest ye well, my friends. Photos of the games all together will find its way here one day, as well as shelf shots. But the games/boxes are spread over two shelving units across multiple shelves, plus you have the books, and toys. hehe

Anyways, I mentioned a url to Flickr, and here it is. I hope you liked the crazy artwork on those Bomberman boxes, which is 1/2 the reason I get the complete versions, for manuals and boxes with amazing artwork, then the games with fun gameplay and incredible music. Regardless of your feelings on Bomberman, enjoy the awesome photos there of me baking like a madman, here's a sample:
