I just got out of African Drum and Dance. I like the class, but I hate how they expect us to learn. So far, with the drummers, we’re expected to pick it up as soon as we see and hear it. However, since there are several levels of experience in the class it’s hard to be able to hear the rhythm we’re supposed to follow when everyone is continuously fumbling around. I think maybe it was a mistake to take a class on Drumming. As much as I enjoy it, I’m not sure I’ll enjoy being “taught.” I like being able to connect with a group of drummers. I guess I’m just not that serious about it. It’s not that I don’t want to be, but it’s like most things in my life, I just can’t bring myself to invest constant time and energy into it.
The package that I mentioned earlier today was from the Lolls. They sent me Hedwig, a large pack of earplugs (so I can study and sleep on the weekends), a buttons that says, “I have bursts of being a lady but it doesn’t last long,” two stuffed animals (really small teddy bears, one dressed up like a dinosaur, the other like a beaver), and a book of Peanuts cartoons called “Life’s Answers.” My day was a pretty good one in a long streak of not so good ones.
